snow day & good news

it's quite the snowy day (we're still open for business, though). So to celebrate the snow, I thought I'd list off some good news, and some good reads:

(this isn't art-related, although it is fashion week related) YOWSERS. (this had heather and I rolling on the floor for a while, so I figured it was worthy of The Pit)

Ok, off to Buffalo to visit Joan Linder's studio. Monica and I will return on Thursday with pictures from the adventure!

SHOUT OUT: Art Bars! (oh, how we will miss you!!!)

Got some sad news the other day that the Art Bar Project (of Ithaca Fine Chocolates) will be shutting down. This is a project (and chocolate) that we've loved for years. The project highlighted and exhibited contemporary works of art, and included artwork images (as well as info on the artist) on lovely little cards packaged into each bar of yummy goodness. 10% of the profits of Art Bars went toward Arts Education. Here's a link to the gallery of various artwork the project has featured over the years.

Thankfully ArtCat has a Twitter feed (for those of us who do not actively follow Twitter), and I was happy to find the email address to have all of my art related questions answered. This is the Tweet (from William Powhida, no doubt) that caught my attention:

We're in the midst of installing Christina Mazzalupo's exhibition, Stomachache. In this body of work Mazzalupo analyzes, charts, tracks and quantifies her emotions, medications, travels, and food intake in the eight weeks leading up to her 40th birthday.

Join us this Thursday, February 11th, 6-8pm at Mixed Greens for the opening of Christina Mazzalupo's Stomachache.

And be prepared for some leftover snow...(if it actually snows tomorrow)

Better Late Than Never: fonda opening pics!

I know this opening happened a few weeks ago, but I figured better late than never. What an opportune time to post these great pictures from Howard's opening--just in time to remind you that you have only ONE MORE DAY to visit the exhibition. Howard Fonda's Squonk's Tears closes tomorrow, Saturday February 6, at 6pm.
