Today HDB received a letter in the mail--actually it was two printouts of artwork, with the above handwritten note. It seemed to be an odd tip-off, if you will, of an "undiscovered" artist's work, which included no contact info other than the author's name "Jen", her reference to someone named "Al", and a website you could use to contact the artist (blacked out). Inspired by Derek Fincham's post about the newly created Art Crime MA program [note: not that this mailing is a crime], I decided to do some of my own detective work to try to figure out where this came from.
Here is a zoomed in look at the handwritten note, which I should mention, arrived in an envelope that was machine addressed, as if it was part of a mass mailing.
Ok, i'll admit that the image above is not as convincing as it is in person, but upon very close inspection it becomes clear that the handwritten note is in fact slightly pixelated, and was simply printed on the reverse of the artwork. CAUGHT IN THE ACT! So be on the lookout Chelsea, because something tells me that a mass mailing of these "personal notes" is in the mail to you.
