Never before has there been an ADDITIONAL SHOUT OUT, however, whilst perusing Apex Art's website, I came across this upcoming "special program" that I think deserves more publicity. Anyone out there interested in directing, curating, & managing their own temporary Apex Art space? Anywhere in the world? And yes, you will be paid. Check this out. Proposals are due December 1st.

SHOUT OUT: Apex Art

Last week I stopped by Apex Art to check out their program "Cell Phone Video Screening", which featured two clips by Rudy Shepherd. I showed up a little late and the place was already packed! Despite the sign on the door, I managed to sneak in and catch the first half of the video footage and a good portion of the discussion. SHOUT OUT to Apex Art for awesome programming, an even more awesome website (you can access the discussion and video clips there), and for the free tote bags which exclaim "big bag. small space." Thankfully the space wasn't too small--I think everyone managed to get inside to see the show.

Artists are Cool

The above image (in its original version) was included in a submission to the gallery. After some distortion (to protect the artist's identity), I've decided to use this image as an example of exactly why and how artists are cool:

1. Black hat. Sorta like something Johnny Depp would wear.
2. I (the artist) wear my sunglasses at night. Or at least indoors. (sorry we had to blackbar over them, but believe us, they were cool.)
3. Cigarette. I apparently also like to smoke indoors--which is truly rebellious since it's now illegal pretty much worldwide.
4. Cool stance.
5. Near-empty glass of wine. It is with me at all times.

Artists, you win. You're cooler than the rest of us.

I'm sure you can tell that I really just wanted to use the word "meta". But since we were already speaking about Coke Wisdom O'Neal, I thought I'd post the above photo because it is, in and of itself, hysterical. Believe it or not, this picture is from Coke's trip to scout out the location for his upcoming Box installation in Texas.

Do LA galleries have it better?

I stopped by some galleries in Culver City this past weekend (which is why you didn't have a blog posting to read this Saturday). I hate to admit that the three things the LA galleries seemed to benefit from were the following:

1) Lots of Exhibition Space [as the example above shows---high ceilings at Kim Light (Lightbox) Gallery]

2) Storage Space. I almost wanted to scream out "NOT FAIR!!" when I saw all of these crates stacked up outside the galleries.

3) The Climate, in general. You could, for instance (and on a long lunch break), go here [above]. I certainly did.
