Microsoft Word and I seem to disagree about the word "curator". And "curating". Actually, all things "curatorial". I've often wondered why it is that WORD refuses to acknowledge that it is a real word, and after years of having to ignore the underlined text (incorrectly) highlighted by the spellcheck, I finally decided to check out the word "curator" for myself. I consulted the authority, and here's what I found:
cu·ra·tor [kyoo-rey-ter, kyoor-ey- for 1, 2; kyoor-uh-ter for 3] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun
1. the person in charge of a museum, art collection, etc.
2. a manager; superintendent.
3. Law. a guardian of a minor, lunatic, or other incompetent, esp. with regard to his or her property
So yes, it IS word. Not exactly the definition I was anticipating. And #3 in the above list has got to be my favorite. I know a few curators who (minus the "law" bit) might agree with that definition. Source here.
