When did Marina change into white? what happened to the table?????
One museum prepares for a stinky (and brief) "exhibition". (and this reminded me of Joan Linder's current show, in which she's drawn various weeds as well as a cadaver...the stinky flower about to bloom is known as the "Corpse Flower")
above: Joseph Smolinski, "R.I.P. Jetty," 2009-2010, rocks, salt, resin and oil
Joseph Smolinski's "RIP Jetty," 2009-2010 was included in his exhibition Beginning of the End last month at Mixed Greens. And while this floor "oil spill" refers specifically to Smolinski's apocalyptic vision of an oil spill near Smithson's Spiral Jetty, it does seem almost as if Smolinski was warning us of a larger disaster...in the Gulf.
Well, MAN is now part of ArtInfo...and apparently that means we'll be seeing a lot of the phrase "only on MAN".
A (a failed attempt ?? at a) show about artists as collectors.
Ahh, the group portrait. This portrait of the current Hunter MFA students got me thinking about that new Bravo show, Work of Art (I've been seeing commercials recently). You can catch a series sneak peek here. The description reads, "Work of Art: The Next Great Artist will bring together fourteen
aspiring artists to compete for a solo show at a nationally recognized
museum and a generous cash prize." I am seriously curious as to which "nationally recognized museum" will get itself caught up in the Bravo-mania.
